OVERVIEW: The Tp 62 (export name Torpedo 2000) is a heavyweight, wire-guided torpedo developed by Sweden for both submarine and surface-ship launch. It entered service in the early 2000s and delivers high-speed engagement with both anti-submarine and anti-surface capability.

DETAILS: “Tp” stands for Torped, and “62” marks the successor to the Tp 613 within Sweden’s heavyweight series. It is 5.99 m long, 533 mm in diameter, weighs around 1 400 kg, and carries a high-explosive warhead. Propulsion is via a kerosene and high-test peroxide pump-jet achieving speeds over 55 kn, with an operational depth beyond 500 m and range exceeding 60 km. Guidance is via wire during mid-course, transitioning to active/passive acoustic homing with target classification capabilities. Initial deliveries to FMV and the Swedish Navy occurred between 2001 and 2010, with Brazil receiving the export version.

TYPE: Heavyweight Wire-Guided Anti-Submarine and Anti-Surface Torpedo

FUNCTION: Launched from 533 mm tubes aboard submarines or surface ships, the Tp 62 travels under wire guidance during mid-course, allowing in-flight targeting updates. In the terminal phase it switches to acoustic homing guided by its onboard sensors to engage moving submarine or surface targets.
